Why is Human Rights Day celebrated?

Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December, coinciding with the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted in 1948.

It was two years after the adoption, in 1950, that the General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day.

Moreover, 1968 was declared the International Year of Human Rights.

What are human rights?

Human rights are inalienable rights that belong to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other condition.

Currently there is a list of human rights created by the United Nations, which defends the right to life, freedom, education, work and many others, which must be respected without any discrimination whatsoever.

You, me and all beings living on this planet have universal human rights and this was possible because a group of people, working together for years in the United Nations Assemblies, managed to make possible a dream that would benefit all citizens of the world.
